Utica's Dunkin’ Closes — Dangerous Area No Longer Run On Dunkin’

Writer: Gabreal CatelloGabreal Catello

Coffee drinkers are shocked to find that the store on Genesee Street in Oneida Square in Utica, NY, has permanently closed for now.

Our local news team members speculate this might be related to a vast amount of issues, from tight local competition, poor location in a high crime area, as well as staffing issues that are not just affecting this store but many local businesses.

We asked some locals, and this is one of the anonymous neutral statements we got that left an impact on our team:

"We loved our Dunkin' Donuts here in Utica, however, the feeling of tension and local issues made many people avoid it and choose locations that give a safer vibe and better value. Many homeless people tend to linger around there from time to time, I can't tell you how many times I have had people ask me for money while waiting in the drive-thru or trying to walk in. Numerous times, I have not just read online but see in person drug actives right out from on the streets"

Researching the claims, we looked up neighborhoodscout.com crime stats, which revealed disturbing info placing the location near an epicenter of the most Dangerous Utica Area Neighborhoods. This info is solely based on their data, but reviewing and going over local press releases does correlate to their data.

This problem is one of the many issues this Dunkin' Donuts may be encountering.
