UTICA MAN INDICTED AND ARRESTED FOR THREATENING A JUDGE

According to Robert M. Maciol, Sheriff of Oneida County, Jeremy D. Ibanez age 40 of Utica, N.Y is in custody after being apprehended in the City of Utica.

On July 29th, 2024, a Deputy assigned to the Law Enforcement Division Uniform Patrol Unit took a harassment complaint regarding an incident that occurred at Whitestown Town Court on July 22nd, 2024. The complaint was regarding the above referenced inmate involving threats made to the presiding judge. Upon initial investigation, the case was turned over to the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Unit for further investigation. Through Investigation, Investigators learned that Ibanez used vulgar language, and racial slurs and threatened to cause harm to the presiding Judge in the Town of Whitestown.

The case was subsequently turned over to the Oneida County District Attorney’s Office for further review and potential grand jury action.

On October 9th, 2024, the grand jury of Oneida County returned an indictment for Jeremy D. Ibanez subsequently charging him with one count of Making a Terroristic Threat a Class D Felony. Following the indictment, a Superior Court Warrant of Arrest was issued for Ibanez and forwarded to the Oneida County Sheriff's Office Warrants Unit for service.

On October 15th, 2024, members of the Warrants Unit along with Sheriff’s Deputies assigned to the Oneida County Office Building in Utica, N.Y, took Ibanez into custody without incident. Following his arrest, Ibanez was arraigned in Oneida County Court and remanded to the Oneida County Correctional Facility in lieu of $20,000 Cash Bail, $40,000 Insurance Bail Bond, and a $100,000 Partially Secured Bond.
