UPDATED: Officer-Involved Shooting in the Town of Deerpark, Orange County

UPDATE: April 14, 2025, at 10:40 a.m.

The State Police members involved in the Officer-involved shooting at Forrest Drive, in the town of Deerpark, NY, on Saturday, April 12, 2025, are identified as follows: Trooper Kevin Jacks and Trooper James Curtin

 

Trooper Jacks has been a member of the State Police since March of 2016 and is assigned to Troop F, Greenville (Orange County).

 

Trooper Curtin has been a member of the State Police Since July of 2024 and is assigned to Troop F, Greenville (Orange County).

 

All Troopers are currently on voluntary leave.

 

UPDATE April 12,2025 at 5:05 p.m.The deceased has been identified as Nancy Loftus, 69, of Port Jervis, NY. A pellet gun was recovered from the scene.

 

UPDATE April 12,2025 at 2:30 p.m.

The deceased was identified as a 69-year-old female. The male subject stated that during the domestic dispute she stabbed him in the stomach with a knife which resulted in his injury.

On April 12, 2025, at approximately 2:30 a.m., troopers from the New York State Police Greenville barracks, Orange County, responded to a reported domestic incident involving a knife at Forrest Drive, in the town of Deerpark. Upon arrival, troopers located a male victim on the front porch who reported that the female suspect was armed with a knife and a firearm.

Shortly after, the female exited the residence and pointed what appeared to be a black handgun at responding troopers. Two troopers discharged their duty weapons, striking the suspect. The troopers immediately rendered medical aid and requested EMS.

The female was transported to Bon Secours Community Hospital in Port Jervis, where she succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased. The male victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries during the domestic incident and was treated by EMS at the scene. No Troopers were injured.


The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact the New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation at 845-344-5300.
