Traffic Stop Leads To Drug Arrest in Plattsburgh NY

On August 12, 2023, State Police members arrested Mark D. Chick, age 45, and Steven J. Bowen, age 30, both of Peru, NY for criminal possession of a controlled substance 3rd, criminal possession of a controlled substance 4th, criminal possession of a controlled substance 7th, and criminal use of drug paraphernalia.

On August 12, 2023, around 10:34 p.m., Troopers observed a gray 2020 Chevrolet Malibu traveling on the Military Turnpike in the town of Plattsburgh. Trooper searched the license plate of the vehicle which indicated the registration was suspended. The Trooper initiated a traffic stop in the parking lot of Stewarts on Rugar Street in the town of Plattsburgh. The Troopers interviewed the driver, who was identified as Bowen, and the front passenger was identified a Chick. While interviewing both occupants they had conflicting stories, and the Troopers were granted verbal consent to search the vehicle. Troopers located crack cocaine and a digital scale that contained white powdery rock residue in the vehicle.

BOWEN and Chick were arrested and transported to SP Plattsburgh for processing. They were arraigned in the Town of Beekmantown Court and released on was released on his own recognizance.
