State Police investigating a fatal fire in the town of Champlain

On December 7, 2024, at approximately 9:00 a.m., State Police members responded to McBride Road in the town of Champlain for a structure fire with possible entrapment.A preliminary investigation indicated two individuals were believed to be still inside the residence.  State Police members made a brief entry into the residence but were unsuccessful in locating the victims due to the intensity of the active fire. Local fire departments arrived on the scene, put the fire out, and made entry into the residence, locating two deceased individuals. State Police investigators and New York State Fire investigators entered the residence as well. One individual in the residence was a female, identified as Dee Duprey, age 43, of Champlain, NY, and the other individual was a male, identified as Eric J. Russell, age 45, of Champlain, NY. The Clinton County Coroner responded to the scene and ordered the decedents removed. New York State Fire investigators arrived at the scene to determine the cause and origin of the fire. Their findings are pending further analysis. Autopsies of both victims were performed.

This is an active investigation.
