State Police arrest Syracuse man following pursuit

On January 6, 2025, at about 11:00 p.m., State Police initiated a traffic stop on a 2003 Toyota on Spencer Street in the City of Syracuse for tinted windows.

The vehicle initially pulled over but fled shortly after, prompting a pursuit. The vehicle turned onto multiple streets, including Shonnard Street, where the operator fled on foot.

The operator, identified as Joshua A. Pizarro-Osorio, 21, from Syracuse, NY, was located nearby and taken into custody by an Onondaga Sheriff’s deputy.

Pizarro-Osorio was turned over to State Police and arrested for Unlawful Fleeing of a Police Officer, numerous traffic violations, and released on an appearance ticket.On January 6, 2025, at approximately 11:00 p.m., a routine traffic enforcement operation conducted by the State Police in the City of Syracuse led to a significant incident involving a 2003 Toyota. The officers noticed the vehicle had heavily tinted windows, which prompted them to initiate a traffic stop on Spencer Street.


Initially, the driver complied and brought the vehicle to a halt. However, before the officers could approach the car to address the infraction, the situation took a dramatic turn when the driver abruptly decided to flee the scene. The police swiftly began a pursuit, and the chase went through various streets in the area. Notably, the suspect made a turn onto Shonnard Street, where the operator ultimately abandoned the vehicle and attempted to escape on foot.


After a brief foot chase, law enforcement was able to locate the driver nearby. The suspect was identified as 21-year-old Joshua A. Pizarro-Osorio, a resident of Syracuse, NY. Responding quickly to the situation, an Onondaga Sheriff’s deputy apprehended Pizarro-Osorio without further incident.


Once in custody, Pizarro-Osorio was subsequently turned over to the State Police, who proceeded to formally arrest him. He faced multiple charges, including Unlawful Fleeing of a Police Officer, in addition to various traffic violations related to the initial stop. Following the arrest, he was issued an appearance ticket and released, with a requirement to return to court at a later date to address the charges. This incident serves as a reminder of the potential dangers and challenges law enforcement faces during routine traffic stops and the importance of compliance with police directives.
