Police Search 29 acres in Vermont for evidence in 30-year-old Homicide Investigation

On November 11, 2023, the New York State Police Major Crimes Unit in Troop D began a three-day search for evidence in a 30-year-old Homicide Investigation.

Investigators along with State Police K9 began a cursory search on November 11th in the Green Mountain National Forrest after new information was developed through follow-up interviews.

The area that was searched comprised of approximately 29 acres located in the vicinity of the Dome Hiking Trail at White Oaks Road in Pownal, Vermont. Over 80 officers from the New York State Police including the New York State Forest Rangers, and the Vermont State Police assisted in the search for the remains of Sara Anne Wood.

The search concluded on Thursday, November 16th after no evidence or remains were found.

The New York State Police continues to search for Sara’s remains.

State Police would like to especially thank the U.S. Forest Service and the town of Pownal Highway Department for their assistance and support with the search.
