Major Drug Bust on I-87: Troopers Seize Large Quantity of Fentanyl and Crack Cocaine
Ramapo, NY – In a decisive strike against drug trafficking, New York State Troopers arrested two men on February 28, 2025, for possessing a significant quantity of Fentanyl and Crack Cocaine with intent to sell. The arrests took place on Interstate 87 as part of the Rockland County Violent Crime Suppression Detail, underscoring law enforcement’s relentless effort to keep dangerous drugs off the streets.
At approximately 8:26 p.m., Troopers from Troop T, SP Tarrytown pulled over a 2019 Honda Pilot for a traffic violation on the New York State Thruway in Ramapo. The driver, Robert Morales (57) of Rensselaer, and his passenger, Irving Prado (51) of the Bronx, soon found themselves the subject of a deeper investigation.
Troopers deployed K-9 Odin, who quickly alerted officers to potential narcotics in the vehicle. A subsequent search uncovered approximately 48.5 grams of Fentanyl and 56 grams of Crack Cocaine, a substantial haul of illicit substances.
Both suspects were immediately taken into custody and charged with multiple Class B felonies, including:
Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 3rd Degree (Possession of Narcotic Drug, ½ Oz or More)
Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 3rd Degree (Intent to Sell)
Following their arrest, Morales and Prado were arraigned before Judge Michael Bongiorno in Clarkstown Town Court and remanded to the Rockland County Jail. They are scheduled to appear in Ramapo Town Court on March 4, 2025, at 1:00 p.m.
