SANGERFIELD, NY – A routine afternoon took a dangerous turn on Tuesday, February 11, when a single-vehicle crash on State Route 20 led to the arrest of a Lee Center man for Aggravated DWI.
According to Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol, deputies were dispatched at 3:06 P.M. after receiving reports of a crash involving a pickup truck in the Town of Sangerfield. Upon arrival, authorities found that 42-year-old Robert Durham had lost control of his vehicle, sliding off the roadway and into an earth embankment.
After an on-scene investigation, deputies determined that Durham was intoxicated at the time of the accident. He was arrested and charged with Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated (DWI), along with multiple other traffic violations. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
Durham was issued tickets and released, pending a future court appearance.
The Oneida County Sheriff’s Office expressed gratitude to the Waterville Fire Department, Anderson Towing, and the New York State Police in Morrisville for their assistance at the scene.
This incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of impaired driving. Authorities urge all motorists to make responsible choices and never get behind the wheel while under the influence.
