NEW HARTFORD, NY – Chaos struck Saturday afternoon at Sangertown Square Mall in New Hartford when a shooting left one person injured, sparking a massive law enforcement response.

Shooting at Sangertown Square Mall

At approximately 12:46 p.m., Oneida County 911 dispatchers received reports of shots fired at the mall. New Hartford Police, New York State Police, and the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office quickly descended on the scene, locking down the area as SWAT teams moved in to secure the premises.

Officials confirmed that one male victim was shot and transported to Wynn Hospital for treatment. However, in a puzzling turn, law enforcement revealed that the victim is “uncooperative with investigators,” leaving authorities with limited information about the motive behind the attack.

While police insist there is no ongoing "active shooter" situation, the mall remains on lockdown as authorities search the area for one or more suspects. Investigators are combing through surveillance footage in hopes of piecing together what led to the shooting.

New Hartford Supervisor Paul Miscione took to social media to assure residents that safety remains a top priority. "We don't know why this happened yet, but law enforcement is actively investigating," Miscione said. "We ask the public to stay clear of the area while officers continue their work."

The mall, a popular shopping hub in the region, became the center of intense police activity as shoppers and employees were either evacuated or told to shelter in place. Outside the mall, anxious families and friends waited for word from loved ones inside.

Pyramid Management Group, which oversees the mall, expressed their sympathy in a statement, saying, "Our thoughts and prayers are with the victim and his family. We are deeply saddened by this senseless act of violence, and we are grateful for the swift response by law enforcement. The safety of our guests and employees is our greatest concern."

As authorities continue their search for the suspect, they are urging anyone with information to come forward. Residents are advised to avoid the area and allow law enforcement to complete their investigation.

If you have any information regarding the incident, please contact the New Hartford Police Department at (315) 724-7111.
